CSFS: Equipment/vehicle replacement grant
Minnesota climate smart food systems (CSFS)
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) seeks public, private, and nonprofit owners of fossil fuel on-road and off-road equipment and vehicles in Minnesota to apply to this competitive grant opportunity to partially fund new, cleaner versions of these equipment and vehicles. Vehicle charging equipment and installation costs for replacement vehicles are eligible.
Eligible projects include those that replace existing fossil-fuel powered on- or off-road equipment and vehicles used within Minnesota’s food system with zero-emission (ZE) powered equipment or vehicles such as battery electric (EV), hydrogen fuel cell, or other fuel resulting in zero tailpipe emissions. Replacement equipment/vehicles must
- Operate as part of the food system
- Be powered by fossil fuels
- Must be fully operational
- Currently operating 75% or more of its annual hours or miles in Minnesota December 2025
- Are not scheduled for replacement for at least three years
- Must have a minimum remaining life of 3 years
- On-road vehicles must currently use a minimum of 1,000 gallons of fuel annually in Minnesota
- Off-road vehicles and equipment, including grain dryers, must operate at least 500 hours/year
- Agricultural pumps must operate for at least 250 hours/year
- Locomotives switchers and railcar movers must operate for at least 1,000 hours/year
Examples of equipment/vehicles include, but are not limited to
- On-road vehicles, such as light-duty pickup trucks, sprinter vans, box trucks, medium- and heavy-duty trucks
- Farm pickup trucks that are used at least 75% for farm business operations
- Off-road equipment, such as forklifts, terminal tractors, skid steers, loaders, railcar movers
