The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is adding a new program to support electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure! We are seeking participation from eligible organizations interested in collaborating with us to identify and develop mostly level 2 charging sites outside of the Twin Cities Metro Area. The Greater MN EV Infrastructure Community Program was intentionally designed to complement the state’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) work that currently focuses on the construction of level 3 – DC fast chargers along major roadways.
The new community-based program will be able to support up to 42 charging sites. Priority will be given to proposed projects that:
- Enhance existing or planned multi-modal hubs or shared use services/fleets
- Provide rural charging solutions
- Are located near multi-family housing units predominantly serving low income or historically underserved populations
Share your project idea with us!
You are invited to complete a simple EV interest form (10 minutes or less) before Feb. 28, 2026. This information will help us better understand your interest in EV charging and how our staff could best support a full application (opening online, March 2026).
If this opportunity isn’t the right fit for you, please share program information with colleagues interested in EV charging.
