In 2008, the City undertook an facility assessment report for all public buildings completed by Sebesta Blomberg.

The City has implemented a lighting replacement program which has reduced the energy consumption in the Water Treatment Plant (as seen in the attached screen shot from the B3 website).

The City implemented a lights-off policy in the Public Works Facility Building which has resulted in an electrical usage of 16%. This was also the result of a more aggressive maintenance schedule of the HVAC system on a yearly basis.

The City is currently implementing the recommendations made in the report by Sebesta Blomberg. The entire report and improvements to date can be viewed at City Hall.

The energy use was reduced in the Public Works Facilty by 16.42%. The energy use in the Water Treatment Plant was reduced by 24.72%.

The City of St. Anthony regularly contracts with companies that use recycled materials as the building base for new road ways. The City has been doing this since 1996 as part of their annual street reconstruction project.

The City of St. Anthony Public Works Department routinely uses a local contractor to recycle its pavement and concrete materials for re-use. In addition to re-using the material, this reduces haul distances, fuel costs, and disposal fees for the City.

The City delivers their forest products to local companies for recycling either as chips or other usable materials such as "Wood from the Hood" that was used for the 2011 GreenSteps awards.

On June 30, after a period of working with leaders in St. Anthony Village, a suburb of Minneapolis, to determine goals and needs, USGBC Minnesota led community leaders and green community industry experts through a strategic planning process. With assistance from facilitator Brian Ross of Great Plains Institute, USGBC Minnesota used an augmented ADVANCE framework to determine goals that would support St. Anthony Village’s comp planning process.
The comprehensive plan addresses land use, transportation, water resources, parks and trails, housing, resilience, economic competitiveness and implementation. ADVANCE St. Anthony Village set goals and discussed resources for support in the areas of transportation and location, sustainable sites and water and energy and atmosphere that will help weave sustainable goals throughout the completed plan. St. Anthony Village is also working with WSB & Associates, Inc. to complete their comprehensive plan—fantastic and willing advocates in the discussions that transpired.
