Implementation details:
We installed LED lights in all 4 of city buildings. City hall has programmable thermostats. All indoor lights in our buildings are turned off at the end of day or when the buildings are not occupied. City staff is scheduled on a regular basis to change out all furnace filters . As we upgrade computers we purchase energy star compliant that automatically go into sleep mode when not in use.

We have rezoned multiple areas since our comprehensive plan was initiated. We currently allow 20 units per acre in our M-1 areas with a PUD for a new apartment complex, next to our commercial district, allowing 54 units per acre.The city has since 2018 approved 3 new apartment building complexes in those zones. 2 are completed with the 3rd breaking ground spring of 2020. The have 89, 180 & 355 units. The remaining residential areas are a mix on R-1, R-2, R-3 & R-4 allowing single up to 4-plexes homes.

The City has adopted PUD's for 3 apartment complexes over the last several years allowing higher density and flexible setbacks. The 1st building is 89 units, the 2nd (Affordable Housing Complex) is 180 units with a 3rd complex in the building process consisting of 355 units. Setbacks were adjusted for the 3rd apartment. All 3 buildings have underground parking. We are also currently working with the owner of the 1st apartment building to expand and add a 2nd building to their complex. several small buildings with a total of 12 units will be torn down so a new building with 39 units can be added. The 1st & 3rd buildings are located within a block of each other in the residential area and all the apartments are in walking distance of downtown & the newly built City playground.

Lexington has had 2 new developments built over the last several years. These both have included landscaping plans that require multiple tree plantings. Any new building in the city would also require the same. Our City residential lots are all 3/4 to 1 acre with multiple trees on each, and 2 parks that encompass 20 acres. our city's overall tree canopy is approximately 53%.

The city built a new salt shed for storage, it includes a paved floor as well as concrete walls and covered top that prevents salt from leaching into the groundwater and waste from rain/snow melt. The City has identified 2 parks in our city that need restructuring. We have started to raise money and looking for grants. There has been plans drawn and approved by city council. The park is now in the budgeting stage. The parks will contain green spaces, water gardens trails and new play. Since 2018 Lexington has approved the development of 3 apartment complexes. The development agreements all included Park Dedication fees to improve our existing parks. The last development expected to break ground in 2020 includes these fees as well as agreement to move our existing Tot Park to a new location on the same block with new & additional equipment, landscaping and better access. This will be paid by the developer with the city retaining ownership of the park.

The city currently has 2 parks. Memorial Park is 20 acres and tot park is a 1/2 acre. Our current population is 2214. Our city is 1 mile by 1 mile , this allow a large majority of our residents to be within 1/2 mile of one of the parks. Our park score as of 2019 was 54% .

The City has a Parks Board staffed by volunteers that maintain the flower gardens throughout the city as well as the rain-gardens. They keep city staff notified of any issues involving invasive species, trash and any other issues that may need additional assistance to correct. They also help to maintain the park buildings. Our website has all the Parks board minutes available so residents can stay updated on upcoming projects.
Each spring the city has an annual clean up day open to all residents to get rid of unneeded items as well as compostable items such as leaves , brush & tree debris.

The City of Lexington has 4 licensed haulers that operate in the city. They are required per city ordinance (chapter 6) to provide at no additional cost recycling containers for all residents. This included multi-unit housing & businesses. Trash is picked up weekly and recycling every two weeks. Our haulers also offer, for a fee, the option of yard waste containers. We participate in additional recycling with Green Lights Recycling to offer our residents additional ways to dispose of items. We mail out yearly a county recycling guide that has coupons for 4 free items 6 times a year that normally have a fee associated with them.
Every spring Lexington has a Clean Up Day , we also dedicate 1/4 of every newsletter to recycling information.

The City of Lexington promotes recycling and composting per action 22.4 each quarter in our newsletter as well as on our website. We have a recycling coordinator that works with our county to provide recycling books/newsletters yearly to all residents and we have recycling bins at city hall where many items can be dropped off. They include batteries, light bulbs, toner cartridges and used clothing for Granny's Closet Our public works department brings compost materials they have collected to our local compost sites as needed, we additionally during our spring & fall clean up days each year allow residents to bring their compost material and we dispose of it for them.

The City of Lexington does allow chickens with a permit from the city. They can only have 4 females chickens. They must have a coop- a structure for keeping or housing the chickens is permitted by the ordinance with a fully enclosed run an covered area attached to a coop where the chickens can roam unsupervised.

The City of Lexington per Resolution 19-05 adopted on February 21, 2019 agreed to participate in the Anoka County All Hazard Mitigation Plan which outlines what is to be done in the event of emergency conditions including but not limited to Tornadoes, floods, blizzards, droughts and other natural disasters as well as train wrecks, plane crashes, explosions, hazardous material’s incidents, terrorism, pipeline leaks, nuclear power plant incidents, and national security emergencies.
Our City web-page includes local information and who to contact in the event of an emergency (The Centennial Police Department is our 1st point of contact) under our Emergency Management link on the home page. There are links included to Anoka County, State of Minnesota & FEMA.

Lexington along with the Centennial Police Department participates in Night to Unite to focus on meeting our residents in person and opening communication with them. During this event officers and other city employees attend block parties, visit neighborhoods and listen to residents concerns , suggestions and complaints. They answer questions and update them on what is happening in our city.
The Lexington Fire Department also holds an open house in September of each year to allow residents an opportunity to learn how to help protect their homes & family and see what innovations have been adopted that make our community safer.
Our web-site has a news section where residents can see current events as well as access past newsletters. This site is connected to our Facebook page and all current & upcoming events are posted there as well.
